That gif is hypnotic… at least he got enough rotation to catch the front tire and be flipped onto his back/side instead of just coming down on his dome.

You probably don't really *need* anything beyond a two-ton floor jack and two-ton jack stands, but in my experience three-ton of each leaves you feeling better assured. Generally the two to three-ton jump gets you a more solid-feeling product.

You'll putting about 1,150lb on each stand, so 2-ton stands (4,000lb) should be fine. I'd go with a 3-ton jack.

Do you have a brand recommendation? Same thing with a floor jack? 3-ton floor jack or more?

If I were you, I'd go for a 3 ton set of stands and a jack. If anything, you may need to lift something that weighs nearer to 3 tons in the future. It also allows you to feel a bit more secure and safe.

I just took (for the first time) advantage of something in a Kinja Deal post. Ordered it yesterday, it will be here on Mon. Free shipping.

These are absolutely fantastic. Load rating is only one part of the jackstand. Footprint and height are also important, and these will stay very stable even lifting something with tall frame rails.

Also just picked up this beast for the garage, great so far lifting a 4200lb station wagon. The lift height is great, goes well with the tall stands:

Is it lifted? I use 6 ton floor jacks with my land cruiser because i need them to reach up high.

As for my floor jack, I have a 2 ton Milwaukee hydraulic jack and it is on of my most prized tools. The thing is a bloody piece of art and I fully imagine I will pass it on to my unborn child because it is built so well.

Stock suspension and normal sized general graber AT's but I am planning on doing a 4" Terrafirma lift that is supposed to cope well with the roof rack/tent/bumpers/winch/battery setup.

I'd get 6 tons, they price difference isn't a whole lot and it will make your life a lot easier with the lift. As for the jack, while it's tempting to go with cheap Chinese stuff, I avoid it like the plague. The seals on the pistons of those jacks start slow leaking after very few lifts. If you want a disposable tool than by all means get one, but if you want something to keep for a decade or two get something better. Hein Werner also makes quality jacks that will stand the test of time.

For the jack, head to your local pawn shop and see if they have a Ranger or Milwaukee or something in. You can get exceptional deals on them there.

At that point, if you had somehow convinced me to be in this in the first place, I would definitely be out.

I have a Milwaukee 4 ton bottle jack given to me recently by my grandfather in law, he was a greyhound bus driver through the 50s, 60s, 70s and then owned his own tour bus company for several years. Great guy, loves cars to this day, although mostly old chrysler stuff.
